[A few hours after Maya's death, the building suddenly changes. All of the extra rooms and areas and items that people have asked for throughout the game have vanished; anyone who isn't currently in the main room will suddenly find themselves transported there. The room looks exactly like it did when you first arrived here, completely empty except for the cabinets and cardboard boxes strewn all over the floor. The only difference is the dozens and dozens of iron doors embedded in the walls around you.

Eight of those doors are open, each leading to the world of one of the people still alive in the building. The world beyond these doors look completely normal, with no sign of what had been displayed in the windows ever having happened. As for the other doors, most of them look blurry and indistinct, but there are around ten or so that seem to be just as solid as the open ones.

Finally, you'll find yourself in familiar company. Now that everything is so close to ending, the dead have finally become visible to the living. Many of them appear to be nothing more than faded spectres, barely distinguishable from the background, but some of them look almost as tangible as the living. You can converse with the more solid ones, though any attempt to make physical contact will meet nothing but empty air.]

[The cat sits regally on top of the cabinet, watching everything with glowing eyes. Though he still physically appears to be a normal cat, there's definitely something spectral and unfathomable about him now, the power around him almost palpable.]

[all right that's fuckin' weird, but. Harriet had something to ask the cat about anyway, so she'll start with the obvious.]

Why can we see the dead now? Can we save them?

[AND HERE COMES KAORU, EVERYONE'S FAVORITE PERSON EVER, GLEEFULLY SKIPPING OFF TO HIS MURDER-BORNE FREEDOM...

except he's not moving toward a door. he heads for the cat instead, immediately, almost as if he doesn't even notice of the people around him dead and alive alike. STEP ASIDE HARRIET HE'S GOT MORE THINGS TO STRANGLE even if they're spooky ghost cats]

You. [firmly. it's like a switch has been flipped and all of the nothingness from the past few hours is replaced with a massive amount of anger and hatred.]

You told us that we needed to vote to survive, so I did. You told us to follow the rules to avoid dying, so I did. You told us to kill three people to leave this place, so I did! [for 26 days he's been under the thumb of this creature, constantly fearful for his life and following nearly every command at the drop of a hat like some trained circus animal even though he knows the stupid thing can't be trusted. he wasn't even supposed to survive. from the very start, there were people here who were never supposed to have a chance at all, and he refuses to let this continue.]

...I'm glad that was enough, after all. You had the power to drag twenty nine of us here and we're all here now. [oh so he did notice...!] Don't expect me to believe this bullshit about you only being able to let eight of us avert our deaths when we're all sent back. I'm not going to play this little game of yours anymore, cat. [with his free hand, he gestures widely out toward the doors.] I will not go back under your terms.

What about the dead who aren't as clear. I need to save Mr. Wolfwood. Is there any way to do it?

[he doesn't really want to talk to the cat again after his initial outburst but a rogue burger has harassed him back over, so:]

I wanted to check again to make sure that I understand, but... a person whose door is blurred doesn't even have a chance at being saved unless the person who enters that door forfeits their own life, right? And even then, the chances of the first surviving are extremely low? That's that - there isn't another way to help that person?

[Of course the first one to notice Serena again is Sylveon--that's probably expected. And even with all the terrible things happening, Serena can't deny that seeing her Pokemon one last time is a relief. Sylveon looks distressed when an attempt to leap at Serena leads only to her flying through her trainer's body, and Serena looks a little distressed, too, but she smiles at her Pokemon anyway once Sylveon starts making distressed whimpering noises.]

It's okay, don't worry, I'm here. Don't cry, okay?

Serena! [ ...Of course, this has to come after she says hello to Mai, because there's no way Ty Lee would have greeted anyone else first. She doesn't try to touch the other girl; she'd tried that with Mai, and it'd failed. ]

You're... [ not all right. ] Here. I can see you.

[Malik seems to be talking to himself as he inspects one of the open doors. After all, he'd grown used to being ignored as he followed Harriet around these last few days.]

So this is it... [He'd been so close, but it wasn't close enough.]

[ Yuyuko's voice seems to fade in before her body does. Seems she's back to reciting her father's poems, but there's a slight lyrical lilt in her voice, almost as if she's singing them instead. ]

[TAKIN A BREAK FROM HASHING STUFF OUT WITH THE CAT to come talk to Yuyuko. hi friend sorry about that whole murder battle thing. the first thing he says is:]

Ty Lee! [ That's shouted as Mai fades into something more... uh, not invisible? Something like that.

Otherwise she's just... standing there. That's what ghosts do, right. Stand around semi-awkwardly. ]

[ She whirls at the sound of her name in Mai's voice, as the spirits of the dead appear around them. Ty Lee doesn't think twice; as she's done so many times over the last few weeks, she throws herself at Mai, going in to hug her -

and going through the other girl like Mai's only make of smoke. Ty Lee's balance is too good for her to topple to the ground. She merely spins, catching herself in an instant, hands still held out though she can't do a thing with them. ]

Mai! You're - you're here, you're really, really here -

[Austria doesn't particularly feel she has many people concerned about saying hello to her. Or goodbye. Or much of anything at all to be perfectly honest. Which is fine, really. She didn't do much to endear herself to anyone.

She'll lace her fingers together in front of her, looking largely disinterested at the reunion. It's not as if she has much of anything to look forward to behind her door either.]

[ SO AFTER ALL'S SAID AND DONE...Yuyuko floats up. For a second she looks like a huffy child whose parent is making them apologize to someone, but-- ]

My apologies for vindicating you so easily, Austria-san. [ a pause. SHE'S A BIG GIRL SHE CAN DO THIS. SHE CAN BE HUMBLE!! ] It took...seeing the situation from my own point of view--the lives of thousands of others depending on my survival--but [ swallowing her pride...it was going to be alright, she would be fine, Youmu would be fine, Youmu would be fine, now ] I'm quite sorry.

[Coming out in front of everyone with a slam of her fist in her palm. She suddenly seems to be completely energized, and is grinning.]

We need a count of how many doors other than the eight of us we're able to open, and we need to know who is vouching for which door! If you're dead and still with us, this is a roll call! If you're alive and helping, chime in with the name of that person!

Whatever's left, I'll do myself! Also, is there anyone here who's a good artist?
